Create and manage Data Projects

The Data Platform helps you manage and structure your product data for different regions and languages. Here's a guide to help you understand how to organize your data efficiently and what you need to consider when setting up your projects.

Create a project folder

A project folder represents a broad or specific category of your product data. If your catalog includes a wide range of products, you can use Project Folders to group them by categories.

Example: You might create a Project Folder named "Electronics" to cover all your product lines like phones, laptops, and PCs.

Projects

Define a locale

A locale refers to the region or country where your customers are based. It includes details like the language they speak and the currency they use. If your business operates in multiple regions, you’ll need to define different locales for each.

Here are examples of locales used in different regions and languages:

  • en-US: English (United States) – Product descriptions in English and prices in USD.
  • en-GB: English (United Kingdom) – Product descriptions in English and prices in GBP.
  • en-JP: English (Japan) – Product descriptions in English and prices in Yen.
  • es-ES: Spanish (Spain) – Product descriptions in Spanish and prices in Euros.
  • es-US: Spanish (United States) – Product descriptions in Spanish and prices in USD.

Manage projects

A Project represents a version of your product data for a specific locale. If your products are sold in multiple regions or languages, each version of your product catalog will be a separate Project within the same Project Folder. This allows you to manage product data for different markets efficiently.

Example: For a company like Cool Appliances, you could have two Projects for the same product catalog: one for US customers in English (en-US) and another for German customers in Germany (de-DE).

Structure:

Appliances (Project Folder)
-- Appliances en-US (Project)
-- Appliances de-DE (Project)

Shared ontology

In Data Platform, a "project folder" holds multiple locales that share the same ontology. This means when you edit a Zoovu Attribute like "weight" in one locale, the changes apply across all other locales:

  • Weight (en-US)
  • Gewicht (de-DE)
  • Poids (fr-FR)

Any changes made to this concept (e.g. updating the unit of measurement) will be reflected across all locales. However, you can still customize the display name for each locale.

You can add new locales to a project folder anytime, and this setup allows you to build an experience once and replicate it across different languages.

To switch between projects or locales, there are two easy methods:

  • Go to the Projects page, and under the relevant Project Folder, select the Project/locale you want to work on.
  • Use the dropdown menus in the top navigation bar to change your current project/locale.
