Import and export themes
You can easily export themes from one account or experience and import them into another. This feature is useful for sharing and reusing designs across different projects or accounts.
Exporting themes
To save a theme to your computer:
- Open Experience Designer.
- Click anywhere on the grey area around the canvas. The theme settings are available in the right-side settings menu.
- Select your theme.
- Click the Export button.
- Choose a name for your theme and save the file.
The exported JSON file does not include custom components. Make sure to export your custom CSS separately.
Importing themes
To use an exported theme in a new account or assistant:
- Open the target account and assistant in Experience Designer.
- Click the Import button.
- Upload the saved theme file.
- Assign the imported theme to the assistant.
Exporting themes with custom components
Themes with custom components cannot be exported directly while retaining those components.
Instead, use the Duplicate feature to copy the assistant containing the theme to the other account. This method ensures that the custom components are included in the copied theme.
Newest component versions
When you export and import a theme, the theme will always include the newest version of all components. If you need to maintain specific component versions, avoid exporting and importing between accounts.
Instead:
- Stay within the same account.
- Use the Save as... feature to create copies of the theme while keeping the component version.
Themes in duplicated assistants
Option 1: Within the same account
Whenever you duplicate an assistant in the same account, the new assistant will automatically have the same theme assigned as the original one.
Option 2: Between different accounts
If you copy an assistant to another account, the theme will also be duplicated and saved in the target account.
