Data-driven questions in unified assistants

Data-driven questions (DDQs) let your assistant pull answer options straight from your product catalog in Data Platform. They are powerful for guiding customers through decisions like color, size, or brand. Learn more.

Enable DDQs for a unified assistant

  1. In Conversation Studio > Flow, add a question to the canvas.
  2. Click on the question to open its settings.
  3. Switch on the Data-driven question toggle.

Product attributes in data-driven questions

In unified assistants, DDQs always connect to Data Platform. Product attributes defined in Ontology are the source of numeric values, ranges, and answer options.

  • When you rename an attribute in Data Platform, the new name shows in Conversation Studio automatically.
  • If you change the type of an attribute or remove it, the question disappears from your assistant.
  • When you update min/max values in Data Platform, Conversation Studio updates them too.

Click the update button in Data Platform for the latest changes to be reflected across Zoovu studios.

Using numeric and numeric range data-driven questions

Numeric and numeric range questions help shoppers narrow down choices based on product attributes such as weight, screen size or battery life.

Add a numeric or numeric range question

  • Open your General Assistant in Conversation Studio.
  • Add a new numeric or numeric range question.
  • Link the assistant to your Data Platform catalog.
  • Open the attributes dropdown to see numeric attributes available in your catalog.

The assistant automatically pulls the minimum, maximum, unit and decimal values from Data Platform. But you can set the default numeric value or numeric range that shoppers see first. Example: If your catalog has laptops from 14 inches to 17 inches, these numbers show automatically. You might set the minimum screen size to 13 inches, even if you don’t currently sell such models, to keep the filter flexible for future products.

Set default values

Numeric questions:

  • The minimum and maximum fields are prefilled with the actual values from Data Platform.
  • You can enter lower or higher values if you want shoppers to see a broader range than what exists in your catalog.
  • You can set a default numeric value. This number is shown to shoppers when they see the question.
  • You can also leave the field empty. In that case, no value is prefilled and shoppers decide what to enter.

Numeric range questions:

  • You can set a default value range. These numbers are shown to shoppers when they see the question.
  • You can also leave the fields empty. In that case, no value is prefilled and shoppers decide what to enter.

Keep attributes in sync with Data Platform

  • When you rename an attribute in Data Platform, the updated name appears in Conversation Studio.
  • If you change the type of an attribute or remove it, the question is removed from your assistant.
  • When you update min/max values in Data Platform, Conversation Studio shows the updated values.

Showing images in answers

You can make data-driven question (DDQ) answers more engaging by adding images or icons. Shoppers will then see these visuals in the answer preview.

  1. In Data Platform > Ontology > Attributes, open the attribute value you want to edit.
  2. Select Filter image and either upload your own image or pick an icon.
